The Merry Wives of Windsor

The pompous Falstaff attempts to seduce two married women simultaneously; they compare notes and devise an escalating series of humiliations to put him in his place.

Shakespeare's is a comedy best experienced as intimate ensemble theater, where the scheming wives' private conversations and elaborate pranks on the foolish Falstaff play out with physical comedy and quick-witted banter that demands close proximity between actors and audience. This page compiles 2026 productions of this 1597 farce across the U.S. and Canada so you can find a local staging near you and catch one of Shakespeare's funniest plays in a live setting.
